General Practice Trainees Australia is here to support ALL doctors working and training in General Practice in Australia.

Our focus is particularly on helping doctors on less supported training pathways.

  The aims of GPTA are:

  • To provide a central source of information about training and working in general practice in Australia
  • To ensure equity in the resourcing and provision of training for all training GPs

Any Membership fees or other revenues for GPTA go directly towards the cost of managing the website and other GPTA activities.

Dr Rebecca Stewart

MBBS FRACGP FANZAHPE GCTertEd PCEval MClinEd

GPTA was founded by Dr Rebecca Stewart who recognised the need to support all doctors training in general practice.  Particularly doctors on less supported training pathways.

Rebecca has been a GP for over 20 years and is an experienced Medical Education Consultant who designs resources and programs for GPs, coordinates Medical Education research projects and works with doctors preparing for GP assessments, and assisting them to meet AHPRA undertakings.

“I have a rich and extensive knowledge of GP training and pathways, resulting from a range of roles including Senior Lecturer in General Practice, to the Director of Education for an RTO. I have representative roles on several local, state and national GP bodies, so that I can advocate for GP Trainees. In the course of my work, I spend heaps of time providing advice to doctors about training pathways, and preparing for GP exams. I’ve realised that there isn’t a place where all GP trainees can ask questions, share knowledge and support each other.
Now there is – GPTA.”

“I have been contacted by literally thousands of IMG doctors on my website and Career Doctor YouTube channel seeking advice and explanations about the process of working as a doctor in Australia. Its not easy to navigate the system. General Practice is particularly opaque. I’m so glad that this one-stop portal has been put together by Rebecca and I’m proud to support it.”
